“But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.”
[1 Timothy 1:16 NIV]
Devotional
Paul never hid his past. He once persecuted the church, tearing down what God was building up. Yet in his testimony, he highlights the incredible patience and mercy of Christ. If God could forgive and transform Paul, the “worst of sinners,” then there is no one too far gone for His grace.
This verse reminds us that salvation is not earned by good works or personal worthiness. It is given by the mercy of Jesus, who patiently draws us to Himself. Paul’s life became a living testimony of what Christ can do with a heart surrendered to Him. His story was not meant to glorify his failures but to magnify God’s grace.
We often carry shame from past mistakes, wondering if God can truly forgive or use us. Paul’s example assures us that our past does not disqualify us from God’s love. Instead, our weakness becomes a canvas where Christ’s power and patience shine brightest. What once was broken can now point others to the hope of eternal life in Him.
Reflection
If Jesus could show patience to Paul, He can show patience to me. My failures are not final when surrendered to Christ. Today, I will trust His mercy and let my story point others to His grace.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your immense patience with me. Thank You that my past does not define my future in You. Help me to live as a witness of Your mercy so that others may see Your love and turn to You.
