Clothed in White

“The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.”

[Revelation 3:5 NIV]

Devotional

This promise was given to the church in Sardis, a city known for its wealth and reputation but also for its spiritual weakness. Jesus called them to wake up, to strengthen what remained, and to live faithfully. In this verse, He assures those who remain steadfast that they will be clothed in white, a symbol of purity, victory, and eternal belonging in His kingdom.

The image of being dressed in white reflects not our own righteousness, but the covering we receive through Christ. It reminds us that our victory does not come from striving alone but from trusting in the One who has overcome sin and death. To have our names secured in the book of life is to know we belong to Him forever, never forgotten, never erased.

Even more beautiful is the promise that Jesus Himself will acknowledge us before the Father and His angels. What greater honor could we hope for than to be spoken of with joy by our Savior? When the world may overlook us or question our faith, God does not. He knows us, He claims us, and He delights in calling us His own.

Reflection

No matter how unnoticed or small your faith may feel, Jesus sees it. Your name is secure in His book of life, and one day you will stand before Him clothed in His righteousness. Let this hope strengthen you to walk faithfully today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for clothing me in Your righteousness and securing my name in the book of life. Help me to live with the confidence that I belong to You, both now and forever. Strengthen me to remain faithful until the day I see You face to face.
