“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
[Revelation 21:4 NIV]
Devotional
This promise comes near the very end of Scripture, where John describes the new heaven and new earth. It is a picture of God’s final restoration, when all the brokenness of our world will be undone. Every sorrow, every wound, every tear will be personally wiped away by the hand of God.
Right now, we still live in a world marked by loss, sickness, and grief. We cannot escape pain on this side of eternity, but we are assured it will not last forever. God is preparing a day when suffering will be no more, and His people will live in perfect joy and peace with Him.
The beauty of this verse is the intimacy of God’s care. He is not distant from our pain but close enough to dry our tears Himself. This is not just the end of suffering, but the beginning of unending joy in His presence.
For weary hearts today, this promise reminds us to lift our eyes. Our hope is not in what we see now but in what God has promised. The old order will pass away, and He will make all things new.
Reflection
Even when life feels heavy, I can hold on to the hope that God has prepared a future without pain or tears. Today I will remind myself that every sorrow is temporary, and joy is certain in His presence.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the promise that one day You will wipe away every tear. Give me strength to endure today’s trials with hope, and help me trust that You are leading me to eternal joy with You. Amen.
