Do Not Be Afraid

“Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

[Genesis 15:1 NIV]

Devotional

God spoke these words to Abram after he had just come back from a difficult battle. Though victorious, Abram may have felt uncertain about his future and weary from the struggle. In that moment, the Lord reassured him of His presence, His protection, and His promise. God was not only Abram’s shield against enemies but also his reward, greater than any earthly treasure.

This promise reminds us that God’s protection is not just about physical safety. He guards our hearts, our minds, and our steps. Life often leaves us feeling vulnerable, uncertain, or even fearful of what tomorrow holds. But just as God told Abram not to be afraid, He whispers the same to us today. His shield is strong enough to cover every weakness, and His presence is more valuable than anything the world can offer.

We often chase after rewards—success, recognition, or comfort—but God Himself is our greatest reward. Nothing compares to the peace of knowing Him, the joy of walking with Him, and the security of being held in His care. When God is your shield and reward, fear loses its grip and hope shines bright.

Reflection

God’s words to Abram are His words to you today: “Do not be afraid.” Whatever you face, remember that He is both your protector and your treasure. Let His presence calm your heart and His promises guide your steps.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being my shield and my very great reward. Help me to rest in Your protection and treasure Your presence above all else. Strengthen my heart when fear rises and remind me that You are always near. Amen.
