Blessed in Giving

“Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.”

[Proverbs 28:27 NIV]

Devotional

God’s Word often connects blessing with generosity. In Proverbs 28:27, we are reminded that giving to the poor is not only an act of kindness but also a reflection of God’s heart. He is a God of compassion, and when we open our hands to those in need, we partner with Him in His work of love and provision.

This verse carries both a promise and a warning. The promise is clear: when we give, we will not lack. God assures us that He will supply what we need as we extend our resources to others. The warning, however, is equally clear: to turn away from the needs of the poor is to turn away from God’s call to love. Ignoring the vulnerable leads to emptiness and loss.

Throughout Scripture, we see God’s heart for the poor. Jesus Himself said that when we give to those in need, we are giving to Him (Matthew 25:40). Our generosity is more than charity; it is worship. It declares that our trust is not in wealth but in the God who provides abundantly for His children.

Reflection

Today, ask God to open your eyes to the needs around you. Look for a way to give, whether it is through your time, encouragement, or resources. As you give, trust that God sees and will supply everything you need.

Prayer

Father, thank You for promising that when I give, I will not lack. Open my eyes to see the needs around me, and give me a willing heart to respond with generosity. Help me to trust in Your faithful provision as I walk in obedience to Your Word.
