God’s Hand of Protection

“The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.”

[Ezra 8:22 NIV]

Devotional

When Ezra prepared to lead a group of exiles back to Jerusalem, he faced a dangerous journey through hostile territories. Instead of asking the king for soldiers and horsemen, Ezra declared his trust in God’s protection. He knew that the Lord’s hand is upon those who look to Him with faith and dependence.

This verse reminds us that God’s protection is not about chance or luck but about His faithful presence with His people. Those who rely on Him can walk forward in confidence, even when the road is uncertain or filled with risk. Ezra chose to trust God’s promise more than human strength, and God honored that faith.

In our own lives, we may not face a caravan journey through dangerous lands, but we do walk through situations that feel uncertain, threatening, or beyond our control. The same God who watched over Ezra and his people is watching over us. His hand still rests upon everyone who looks to Him in trust and surrender.
