“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
[Psalm 73:26 NIV]
Devotional
Life often reminds us of our weakness. Our bodies grow tired, our emotions can feel fragile, and our hearts may waver under the weight of challenges. The psalmist, Asaph, understood this deeply. He looked around at the prosperity of the wicked and wrestled with feelings of discouragement. Yet, in the middle of his struggle, he declared this powerful truth: even when his strength failed, God remained the unshakable source of his life.
What makes this verse so comforting is its honesty. It does not deny that our flesh and heart may falter. Instead, it points us to a greater reality. God Himself is the strength we need when ours runs out. He is not only our helper in moments of weakness, but He is also our eternal portion. That means He is more than enough for us, now and forever.
When we rely on our own abilities, we quickly find our limits. But when we lean on God, we tap into an endless supply of strength that is rooted in His unchanging love. Just as Asaph discovered, our perspective changes when we remember that God is both our present help and our eternal inheritance.
Reflection
Today, when you feel weary or overwhelmed, remember that you do not need to carry everything in your own strength. God is your portion forever, and His strength will hold you up. Trust Him to be your steady foundation.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that even when my strength runs out, You never fail me. Be the strength of my heart today and remind me that You are my portion forever. Help me lean on You instead of myself. Amen.
