“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
[Romans 4:20–21 NIV]
Devotional
Abraham’s faith was not based on what he could see, but on who God is. Though his circumstances looked impossible, his age and Sarah’s barrenness, he chose to believe that God’s promise was greater than his limitations. His faith did not ignore reality; it simply trusted that God’s reality was higher than his own.
This passage reminds us that faith is not the absence of doubt, but the decision to trust God in spite of it. Abraham grew stronger as he continued to glorify God, even before the promise was fulfilled. Worship became the fuel that strengthened his faith. The more he looked to God’s power, the less he was swayed by his weakness.
When we face seasons that test our belief, God invites us to stand firm in the same confidence. His promises are not fragile, and His power does not fade with time. He is able to do exactly what He has said.
Reflection
Like Abraham, I can choose to be fully persuaded that God will keep His word. Even when the outcome is unseen, I will hold on to His character and trust His timing.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your promises never fail. Strengthen my faith when I am tempted to doubt, and help me glorify You as I wait for Your word to be fulfilled.
