“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
[Luke 6:38 NIV]
Devotional
Jesus reminds us that generosity is not a transaction but a reflection of God’s own heart. When we give, whether it’s time, kindness, forgiveness, or resources, we are participating in the divine flow of blessing. God’s economy works differently from ours: the more we give in love, the more room we make for His abundance to pour in.
The image of a “good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over” paints a vivid picture of God’s generosity. In ancient markets, sellers would fill a container to the brim, pressing and shaking it to make sure it held all it could. That is how God gives to us, lavishly, abundantly, without holding back.
This promise is not only about material blessings. It speaks to the fullness of peace, joy, and grace that flow from a generous heart. When we release what we have with gratitude, God multiplies it in ways we cannot measure. Our giving becomes a channel of His love in the world.
Reflection
When I give freely, I open my heart to receive God’s overflowing blessings. His supply never runs dry, and His generosity always exceeds my own.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being a generous Father who delights in giving good gifts. Teach me to give with joy and trust that You will provide all I need in return.
