We Belong to the Lord

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

[Romans 14:8 NIV]

Devotional

This verse is a beautiful reminder that our entire lives are in God’s hands. Paul wrote these words to encourage believers to live with purpose and unity, knowing that everything we do should reflect our relationship with Christ. Whether in life or in death, our identity and security rest in belonging to Him.

To “live for the Lord” means more than simply believing in Him; it means surrendering our plans, priorities, and fears to His care. When we remember that we belong to the Lord, everyday choices take on eternal meaning. Even in uncertainty or hardship, we can live with peace because we are never outside His love or control.

This promise brings deep comfort. Life and death can both feel fragile and uncertain, but for those who are in Christ, there is no separation from His presence. We belong to Him completely, and nothing can take that away.

Reflection

You are not your own. You belong to the Lord. Let that truth bring peace and courage to whatever you face today, knowing that His love holds you steady.

Prayer

Father, thank You that my life is in Your hands. Help me to live each day for You, trusting that I belong to You now and forever.
