“You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light.”
[2 Samuel 22:29 NIV]
Devotional
These words come from a song of praise David sang after God delivered him from danger and enemies. David had walked through seasons of fear, uncertainty, and deep trouble. Yet looking back, he recognized something powerful. God had not only rescued him; God had been the very light that guided him through every shadowed moment. The darkness did not have the final word because God was present in it.
This verse reminds us that God does not wait for our circumstances to brighten before He helps us. He steps into the darkness with us. When we do not know what to do next, He gives clarity. When discouragement presses in, He shines hope. When we feel overwhelmed, His presence becomes the steady light that leads us forward one step at a time.
Sometimes the shadows we face are internal: worry, disappointment, grief, or confusion. Other times they are the challenges around us. But whichever darkness we encounter, the promise remains. God is your lamp. His light is not dim or fragile. It is strong enough to pierce the heaviness and gentle enough to comfort your heart.
Let this truth settle deeply today. You are not walking blindly. God is illuminating your path, and He knows exactly how to bring you through.
Reflection

Prayer
Lord, thank You for being my lamp and turning my darkness into light. Help me look to You when I feel unsure. Shine Your guidance and peace on my path.
