“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
[Luke 11:13 NIV]
Devotional
Jesus spoke these words to reassure His followers that God hears and responds when His children pray. He used a simple comparison everyone could understand. Even imperfect human parents know how to give good gifts. If that is true, how much more can we trust our heavenly Father, whose goodness is limitless and whose love is never flawed? Jesus wanted us to approach God with confidence, not hesitation.
This promise reveals the heart of God. He does not give reluctantly or sparingly. He gives generously, especially when we ask for what matters most: His presence and His Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings comfort, guidance, strength, and wisdom. God is not withholding these gifts from you. He gladly pours them out when you come to Him.
In moments when prayer feels ineffective or when you wonder if God is listening, let this verse remind you of His character. He is attentive. He is kind. He is eager to fill your life with His Spirit so you can walk in strength you do not possess on your own. Asking Him is not a burden to Him. It is an invitation He welcomes.
Today, bring your needs to God with open hands. You are loved by a Father who delights in giving what is good and who never turns away those who seek Him.
