Treasured by God

Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.

[Exodus 19:5 NIV]

Devotional

These words were spoken by God to Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai, just before giving the Ten Commandments. The people had been rescued from slavery, carried through the wilderness, and shown God’s power again and again. Now He reminded them of something even deeper. He wanted a relationship with them. He desired their trust, their hearts, and their obedience so they could live in the fullness of His blessing.

God called His people His “treasured possession.” This phrase is rich with meaning. It describes something precious, protected, and valued beyond measure. God was not looking for flawless performance. He was inviting His people into a covenant of love, where their obedience flowed from gratitude and trust. His desire was to form them into a people marked by His presence and set apart for His purposes.

Today, this promise echoes through the heart of every believer. In Christ, we are welcomed into God’s family, chosen and dearly loved. Our obedience does not earn His affection. It strengthens our walk with Him and helps us experience the life He intends for us. When we follow His ways, we discover freedom, identity, and purpose that cannot be found anywhere else.

Let this truth steady your heart. You are loved by a God who calls you His treasure and invites you to walk closely with Him.
