“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
[Philippians 3:14 NIV]
Devotional
Paul wrote this verse from a prison cell, yet his heart was filled with purpose and determination. He wanted the Philippians to know that following Jesus is a journey that moves us forward, not backward. Though his circumstances were limiting, his spirit was not. Paul had his eyes fixed on the eternal prize: becoming more like Christ and one day standing fully in His presence.
This verse is not about striving in our own strength. It is about leaning into God’s calling with perseverance and hope. Every step you take with Jesus has purpose, even when the path feels slow or difficult. Paul understood setbacks, disappointments, and challenges, but he refused to let them define him. Instead, he pressed on, trusting that God was leading him toward something greater.
In your own walk, there may be days when progress feels small or your motivation fades. But God is calling you heavenward. His hand is on your life, guiding you toward maturity, strength, and deeper love for Him. The prize is not something the world can give. It is the joy, fulfillment, and glory found in Christ alone.
Let this promise encourage you today. You are not running aimlessly. God sees your effort, guides your steps, and strengthens you to keep moving forward.
