“But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
[Luke 22:32 NIV]
Devotional
Jesus spoke these words to Simon, whom He had already renamed Peter, a name that means rock. Jesus first called him Simon, then called him Peter to reflect the new identity and purpose He was giving him. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus addressed him by his original name during a moment of deep warning and tenderness. Jesus knew Peter believed he would never fail Him, yet He also knew the struggle ahead.
Peter would soon deny Jesus, not once but three times. Still, Jesus did not condemn him. Instead, He prayed for him. Before Peter fell, Jesus had already interceded for his faith and planned his restoration. This shows the heart of Jesus toward us. He knows our weaknesses better than we do, yet He never abandons us when we stumble. He supports us, restores us, and leads us back to Himself with compassion.
Jesus also gave Peter a purpose beyond his failure. Once restored, Peter would strengthen others. God often uses the places where we have been weak to help others find hope. Your story, shaped by God’s forgiveness and renewal, can become a source of strength for someone who is struggling.
Let this promise reassure your heart today. Jesus is praying for you. He is committed to your faith, and He will lead you forward into healing, purpose, and renewed strength.
