Blessed When You Bear His Name

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

[1 Peter 4:14 NIV]

Devotional

Peter wrote this letter to believers who were facing opposition and misunderstanding because of their faith. Following Jesus was costly for them, and their commitment drew criticism rather than applause. Yet Peter reminded them of a surprising truth. When you suffer for Christ, you are not abandoned or overlooked. You are blessed. God’s presence rests on you in a special way.

This promise reassures us that hardship for Christ is never wasted. The Spirit of glory and of God rests on you in those moments. This means you are upheld, strengthened, and honored by God even when the world misunderstands you. What feels painful on earth is seen as precious in heaven. God draws near to those who stand for His name and fills them with courage, peace, and grace.

Many believers today still face rejection or criticism for following Jesus. Sometimes the opposition is subtle, and sometimes it is heavy. Yet the blessing remains the same. God’s Spirit rests on you. He gives you strength beyond your own and joy that circumstances cannot take away. Your faith shines brightest when it is tested, and God delights to be with you in those moments.

Let this promise encourage you. When you walk faithfully with Jesus and face hardship because of it, you do not carry that burden alone. God’s presence surrounds you, honors you, and strengthens you.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your promise to be with me when I am misunderstood for following You. Fill me with courage and remind me that Your Spirit rests on me. Help me honor You in every situation.
