“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
[Colossians 3:23–24 NIV]
Devotional
Paul wrote these words to believers learning how to follow Jesus in their everyday lives. Their work was not always glamorous. Some served in difficult circumstances with little recognition or appreciation. Yet Paul lifted their eyes to a greater truth. Every task done with a sincere heart becomes an act of worship when it is done for the Lord. God sees the effort, the faithfulness, and the integrity that others may overlook.
This promise reminds us that our work matters to God. Whether your tasks feel important or unnoticed, God values the heart behind them. When you work with all your heart as unto Him, your attitude changes. The mundane becomes meaningful. The challenging moments become opportunities to honor Christ. You are not just fulfilling responsibilities. You are serving the Lord Himself.
Paul also anchors this command in a future hope. God promises an inheritance and a reward that far outweighs earthly recognition. When you work for Christ, your labor is never wasted. He sees what others do not. He remembers what others forget. He blesses what others overlook. Your faithfulness today carries eternal significance because it is rooted in service to the One who loves you.
Let this truth strengthen you. Whatever you do, do it with all your heart for the Lord who sees, values, and rewards your faithfulness.
