Kept by His Prayer

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

[John 17:15 NIV]

Devotional

These words come from Jesus’ prayer on the night before His crucifixion. He was praying for His disciples, and He was also praying for everyone who would believe through their message. Instead of asking the Father to remove His followers from the challenges of the world, Jesus prayed for something far greater. He prayed for their protection. He knew they would face temptation, pressure, and spiritual opposition, yet He asked the Father to guard them in every moment.

This promise shows us the heart of Jesus toward His people. He does not shield us from every difficulty, but He does shield us from defeat. His prayer covers every believer, reminding us that we are not left to navigate life by our own strength. God’s protection surrounds us in ways we cannot always see. His presence strengthens us when we are weak, steadies us when we are unsure, and keeps us close when the enemy tries to pull us away.

Jesus’ prayer also teaches us something important. Our purpose is not to escape the world but to live faithfully in it. We are called to shine His light, carry His love, and stand firm in His truth. This is possible because He has prayed for our protection and the Father answers His Son with perfect faithfulness. You are covered, guarded, and held by the power of God.

Let this promise rest in your heart today. Jesus prayed for you, and His prayer still stands. You are protected by the Father who loves you.

Reflection

Jesus has prayed for my protection. I can walk in confidence, knowing God guards me from the evil one as I live out His purpose.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for protecting me. Strengthen my heart to live faithfully in this world. Keep me close to You and guard me from anything that would pull me away from Your truth.
