Courage From His Spirit

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives power, love and self-discipline.

[2 Timothy 1:7 NIV]

Devotional

Paul wrote these words to Timothy, a young pastor facing pressure, opposition, and moments of hesitation. Timothy loved the Lord, yet he struggled with fear. Paul reminded him that the Spirit of God within him was not a spirit of timidity. God had already placed in him everything he needed to walk boldly and faithfully. Power, love, and self-discipline were not goals to achieve. They were gifts already given by the Holy Spirit.

This promise speaks to us in the same way. Fear often whispers that we are not enough. It tells us we cannot move forward, cannot speak up, or cannot step into what God is calling us to do. Yet God has given us His Spirit, and His Spirit never leads us into fear. He strengthens our hearts with courage, fills our actions with love, and shapes our minds with clarity and self-control.

Power reminds us that we are not limited to our own strength. Love reminds us that everything we do should reflect the heart of Christ. Self-discipline reminds us that God steadies our thoughts and guides our choices. These qualities grow in us as we lean on the Spirit and trust the One who lives within us.

Let this promise settle into your heart today. You do not walk in fear. You walk in the power, love, and steady strength that God has already placed in you.

Lord, thank You for giving me a Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Quiet my fears and strengthen my heart to follow You with confidence. Help me rely on the Spirit You have placed within me.
