“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly body so that it will be like his glorious body.”
[Philippians 3:20–21 NIV]
Devotional
In Philippians 3, Paul contrasts two ways of living. Some set their minds only on earthly things, placing their hope in temporary pursuits. But believers are reminded that their true citizenship is in heaven. This means our identity, loyalty, and future are rooted in something far greater than the shifting values of this world.
To belong to heaven is to live with perspective. Earthly struggles, disappointments, and even physical limitations do not define the end of your story. You are part of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. You are known and claimed by a Savior who reigns with authority over everything. Nothing is outside His control.
The promise goes even further. Jesus will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body. This speaks of a future filled with renewal and restoration. Every weakness, every ache, every reminder of human frailty will one day be replaced with wholeness. The same power that raised Christ is at work securing that future for you.
Today, lift your eyes. You are not just surviving in this world. You are a citizen of heaven, awaiting a victorious Savior. Your future is certain, and it is glorious.
Reflection
Where have you been tempted to place too much weight on temporary things? Remember that your true citizenship is in heaven. Let that hope steady your heart today.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that my true home is with You. Help me live with heavenly perspective and trust in Your power to transform and restore. Strengthen my hope as I wait for You. Amen.
