“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
[Luke 10:19 NIV]
Devotional
In Luke 10, Jesus sends out seventy two disciples to minister in His name. They return amazed that even demons submit to them. In response, Jesus reminds them that their authority comes from Him. It is not their strength, but His power at work through them that brings victory.
When Jesus speaks of trampling on snakes and scorpions, He is using vivid imagery to describe spiritual opposition. The promise does not deny that spiritual battles exist. It declares that the enemy does not have the final authority over your life. Through Christ, you stand under divine protection and empowerment.
This does not mean you will never face difficulty or hardship. It means that nothing can ultimately separate you from God’s purpose or destroy the life He has given you in Christ. The enemy’s power is limited. Jesus’ authority is complete. When fear whispers that you are vulnerable and alone, this promise speaks louder truth.
Today, walk in quiet confidence. You belong to Jesus. His authority covers you. You are not called to live intimidated, but assured that the One who sends you also sustains you.
Reflection
Is fear trying to convince you that you are powerless? Remember that Jesus has given you authority through Him. Stand firm in His strength today.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the authority and protection You give me. Help me trust Your power over every fear and every attack. Teach me to walk confidently in the strength You provide. Amen.
