“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
[Psalm 56:3 NIV]
Devotional
Psalm 56 was written by David during a time of real danger. He had been seized by the Philistines in Gath and his life felt uncertain and fragile. Yet in the middle of that fear, David made a choice. He did not deny his emotions. He redirected them. “When I am afraid,” he said, “I put my trust in you.”
This promise does not shame you for feeling afraid. Fear may come suddenly through a diagnosis, a difficult conversation, financial pressure, or an unknown future. The presence of fear does not mean the absence of faith. It simply becomes an invitation to place your trust somewhere stronger than your circumstances.
Trust is an active decision. It means shifting your focus from what could go wrong to who God is. He is steady when everything else feels unstable. He is near when you feel vulnerable. He is faithful when outcomes are unclear. Each time fear rises, you have the opportunity to anchor your heart in Him.
Today, you can follow David’s example. Fear may knock, but it does not get to stay. Trust answers the door.
Reflection
When fear rises in my heart, I can choose to trust God instead of spiraling in worry. He is my steady place in uncertain moments.
Prayer
Father, You know the fears I carry today. Thank You that I can bring them to You and choose to trust You. Strengthen my heart and help me rest in Your faithful care. Amen.
