“Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
(John 8:31–32 CSB)
Devotional
In this moment recorded in John’s Gospel, Jesus speaks to people who had already begun to believe in Him. Yet He invites them into something deeper than simple belief. He calls them to continue in His word. True discipleship is not just a moment of faith, but a life that keeps returning to His teachings, allowing His words to shape our thoughts, decisions, and direction.
Jesus promises that as we remain in His word, something powerful happens. We begin to know the truth. This truth is not merely information or knowledge we collect. It is the living truth found in Christ Himself and revealed through His words. As we walk with Him and learn from Him, our understanding of God, ourselves, and the world becomes clearer.
The world often promises freedom through independence, success, or self-definition. But Jesus reveals a different kind of freedom. Real freedom is found in truth. When His truth fills our hearts, it breaks the chains of fear, guilt, lies, and confusion that try to hold us captive. His word exposes what is false and leads us into a life that is aligned with God’s goodness.
Today, Jesus invites us to stay close to His word. When we keep returning to His truth, it renews our minds and strengthens our faith. The more we walk with Him, the more we experience the freedom He promised. His truth does not weigh us down. It lifts us, guides us, and leads us into a life of lasting peace.
Reflection
Today I choose to remain in Jesus’ word. His truth shapes how I see my life and my circumstances. When doubts or lies try to take hold, I remind myself that His truth sets me free. As I continue walking with Him, I trust that His word will keep guiding me into greater freedom.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the truth found in Your word. Help me remain in Your teaching and grow as Your disciple each day. Strengthen my heart to trust Your truth and walk in the freedom You promise.
