“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.’”
(Acts 2:38–39 CSB)
Devotional
On the day of Pentecost, after the Holy Spirit was poured out, the people listening to Peter were deeply moved. They realized their need for forgiveness and asked what they should do. Peter responded with a clear invitation: repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This message revealed God’s desire to restore people through Jesus. Repentance means turning away from our old way of living and turning toward God. Through Jesus Christ, forgiveness becomes available, and our relationship with God is made new. Baptism becomes a public expression of that transformation and commitment to follow Him.
Peter also emphasized something remarkable. The promise of the Holy Spirit was not limited to that crowd or that moment in history. It was for them, for their children, and for all who were far away. This means God’s invitation extends across generations and across the world to everyone He calls.
Today, that promise still stands. God continues to call people into forgiveness, new life, and the presence of His Spirit. The same Spirit who filled the believers at Pentecost is given to those who trust in Jesus. It is a promise of renewal, guidance, and the living presence of God within His people.
