The Right to Be God’s Child

But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name.

(John 1:12 CSB)

Devotional

John begins his Gospel by introducing Jesus as the true Light who came into the world. Many people did not recognize Him, yet some received Him with faith. To those who believed in His name, something extraordinary happened. Jesus gave them the right to become children of God.

This promise reveals the heart of the gospel. Faith in Jesus does more than change our beliefs. It transforms our identity. When we receive Christ, we are welcomed into God’s family. We are no longer distant from Him but brought close as His sons and daughters.

Being a child of God means we are loved, accepted, and cared for by our Heavenly Father. Our value is no longer defined by our past mistakes, achievements, or the opinions of others. Instead, our identity rests in the secure relationship God has given us through Jesus.

Today you can rest in this incredible truth. If you have received Jesus and believe in His name, you belong to God’s family. You are His child. That identity brings confidence, comfort, and hope because the Father who welcomed you will continue to guide and care for you every day.

Reflection

Today I remember who I am in Christ. Through faith in Jesus, I am a child of God. I am loved and accepted by my Heavenly Father. This truth gives me confidence to walk through life knowing I belong to Him.

Prayer

Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your family through Jesus. Help me live each day with the confidence of being Your child. Remind my heart that I am loved and secure in You.
