βJesus came near and said to them, βAll authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.ββ
(Matthew 28:18 CSB)
Devotional
After His resurrection, Jesus gathered His disciples and spoke these powerful words. They were about to be sent into the world with a mission that seemed far greater than their abilities. Before giving them their assignment, Jesus reminded them of a foundational truth. All authority in heaven and on earth belonged to Him.
This declaration means that Jesus is not merely a teacher or a historical figure. He is the risen Lord who reigns over every power, every circumstance, and every place. Nothing in heaven or on earth exists outside of His authority. The disciples could move forward with confidence because the One sending them ruled over everything.
For believers today, this truth brings deep reassurance. Life can feel uncertain, and the world can seem chaotic at times. Yet the authority of Jesus remains unchanged. The same Lord who spoke these words still reigns, guiding His people and fulfilling His purposes.
When we remember that Jesus holds all authority, our fears begin to lose their grip. We are not following a powerless leader. We are following the risen King who rules over all things. His authority gives us courage to trust Him and confidence to walk in the mission and life He has given us.
Reflection
Today I remember that Jesus holds all authority in heaven and on earth. My life is in the hands of the risen King. I can trust His leadership and follow Him with confidence. His authority gives me peace and courage for whatever lies ahead.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your authority over all things. Help me trust Your rule in every area of my life. Give me courage to follow You with faith and confidence.
