“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
(Matthew 5:6 CSB)
Devotional
These words come from the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus describes the kind of life that reflects God’s kingdom. When He speaks about hungering and thirsting for righteousness, He uses the strongest physical cravings people experience. Just as our bodies long for food and water, Jesus is describing a deep desire for what is right in God’s eyes.
Righteousness means living in a way that honors God and reflects His character. It includes seeking justice, loving what is good, and growing in a right relationship with Him. When our hearts begin to desire these things, it shows that God is already at work within us.
Jesus gives a beautiful promise to those who seek righteousness this way. They will be filled. God does not ignore a heart that sincerely longs for Him. He responds by drawing us closer, shaping our character, and satisfying the deepest needs of our souls.
Today you can bring your desire for God before Him. Even a small hunger for righteousness matters to Him. As you seek Him, He promises to fill your heart with the goodness, peace, and purpose that only He can provide.
Reflection
Today I choose to hunger for what is right in God’s eyes. I want my heart to desire His ways more than anything else. As I seek Him, I trust that He will fill my life with what truly satisfies.
Prayer
Lord, grow my desire for righteousness and for Your presence. Help me seek what is good and pleasing to You. Thank You for the promise that You will fill those who truly long for You.
