The End of Every Ache

“They will no longer hunger; they will no longer thirst; the sun will no longer strike them, nor will any burning heat. For the Lamb who is at the centre of the throne will shepherd them; he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 7:16-17 CSB).

Devotional

Exhaustion often feels like a dry, parched desert where the heat of life’s pressures never seems to let up. You may be carrying a grief that feels as though it has permanently stained your vision, or perhaps you are simply worn down by the constant demands of a world that offers very little shade or rest. In the middle of long seasons of struggle, it is easy to feel as though the burning heat of your circumstances will eventually consume you, leaving you with nothing left to give.

The vision given to John in Revelation provides a breathtaking window into the ultimate relief that awaits the weary. It describes a place where the basic struggles of human existence, including hunger, thirst, and the blistering heat of trial, are permanently banished. This is not just a distant hope for the future; it is a promise of a coming reality where your current fatigue will be replaced by eternal refreshment. The things that cause you to stumble and weep today have an expiration date, held firmly in the hands of the King.

What makes this restoration so profound is the heart of the One who provides it. The Lamb, who is at the very centre of heaven’s authority, takes on the role of a gentle Shepherd. He does not just point the way to life; he personally guides you to the springs of water that never run dry. He understands your thirst because he once cried out in thirst upon the cross. He is intimately acquainted with your sorrow, and he does not remain distant from it.

The most tender promise in all of Scripture is found in the image of God wiping away every tear from your eyes. This is the work of a Father who leans in close to his child, acknowledging every hurt and every moment of lonely desperation you have endured. He does not ignore your pain or tell you to be stronger; he removes the source of the sorrow and dries the path of the tears. You can hold on today knowing that your Shepherd is currently leading you toward a home where weariness is a memory and joy is the constant atmosphere.

Reflection

I realize that I often feel as though my current sorrows will never end, but this promise reminds me that God is keeping track of every tear. It comforts me deeply to know that Jesus is my Shepherd, leading me toward a place of perfect rest and refreshment. I will trust him to guide me through the heat of this day, knowing that his tender care is my ultimate destination.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the promise of a future where there is no more hunger, thirst, or sorrow. Please comfort my weary heart today and help me to feel your gentle hand wiping away my tears. I trust you to be my Shepherd and to lead me beside the quiet waters of your peace.
