“For if you carefully keep all this command I am giving you to follow—to love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, and remain faithful to him—the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will drive out nations greater and stronger than you” (Deuteronomy 11:22–23 CSB).
Devotional
There are seasons when you feel like a small, solitary figure standing before a massive, impenetrable wall. Loneliness often whispers that you are fighting your battles entirely on your own, and that the obstacles in your path are far too great for your limited resources. You might look at the challenges ahead and feel an overwhelming sense of inadequacy, wondering how someone as weary as you could ever overcome the giants in your life. This feeling of being outnumbered and unsupported can drain the courage right out of your spirit.
However, the promise given to the Israelites was never about their own size or military prowess. It was entirely about their connection to the One who goes before them. The command is not to become stronger or more capable on your own, but simply to love the Lord, walk in his ways, and remain faithful to him. When your heart is knit to his, the burden of the battle shifts from your shoulders to his. Loneliness loses its power when you realize that your primary task is simply to stay close to the God who loves you.
God promises to drive out the things that intimidate you. He explicitly mentions nations greater and stronger than you because he wants you to know that your success does not depend on your relative strength. In your moments of deepest isolation, he is working on your behalf, clearing a path through the opposition that seems so daunting. You are never truly alone in the struggle when you are walking in step with the Creator of the universe.
Remaining faithful to him means trusting his presence even when you cannot feel it. As you choose to love him and follow his lead today, you can move forward with a quiet confidence. The giants you face are not too big for him, and the path that feels so lonely is actually crowded with his favour and protection. You can take the next step knowing that the Lord is already ahead of you, making a way where there seems to be no way.
Reflection
I am reminded that I do not have to be the strongest person in the room because my God is already in control. Even when I feel lonely or outmatched, I can choose to focus on loving him and following his lead. I will trust that he is driving out my fears and clearing the way for me today.
Prayer
Lord, please help me to stay close to you and remain faithful even when the challenges ahead look far too big for me. I thank you that I am never truly alone because you are always working on my behalf. I give you my fears and choose to walk in your ways, trusting in your victory.
