“For since he himself has suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:18 CSB).
Devotional
There are moments when the weight of temptation or the pressure of a recurring struggle feels like an isolating shadow. You may feel a deep sense of shame or a quiet fear that if people truly knew the battles raging inside your mind, they would turn away. This kind of exhaustion is unique; it is the weariness of fighting a war that no one else sees, making you feel as though you are the only one who has ever felt this weak or this broken.
The beauty of the gospel is that you are served by a Saviour who is not distant or detached from your reality. Jesus did not simply watch our suffering from a safe distance; He stepped directly into the fray of human existence. He felt the sting of betrayal, the ache of physical exhaustion, and the intense pressure of temptation. Because He has walked through the darkest valleys of the human experience, He looks at your current struggle not with a scowl of judgment, but with eyes of deep, experiential compassion.
You do not have to explain the nuances of your pain to Him because He already knows the weight of it. His ability to help you is not based on a theoretical understanding of right and wrong, but on the fact that He stood where you are standing and remained faithful. When you feel like you are at your breaking point, you can lean into His strength. He provides a bridge of empathy that allows you to approach Him with complete honesty, knowing that He is both willing and able to sustain you.
Today, let the truth of His shared experience wash away your sense of isolation. You are not failing because you feel the pressure; you are simply human, and you have a High Priest who honours your honesty. Turn your gaze toward the One who has already overcome the world and find the specific, tailored help He offers for your situation. In His presence, your struggle is met with a grace that understands and a power that rescues.
Reflection
I sometimes feel like I have to hide my struggles from God because I am embarrassed by my own weakness. I am comforted to know that Jesus truly understands the pressure I feel and does not look down on me. I will reach out for His help today, trusting that His experience and His power are enough to carry me through.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being a Saviour who understands my struggles and has felt the weight of temptation firsthand. I ask for Your help in the specific areas where I feel weak and overwhelmed right now. Thank You for Your compassion and for the strength You provide to help me endure.
