“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you because you, Lord, have not abandoned those who seek you.” (Psalm 9:9–10 CSB)
Devotional
There are moments in life when the weight of the unknown feels almost too heavy to hold, leaving us restless and searching for a way to secure our own peace. Whether we are facing the vulnerability of a loved one’s health or the uncertainty of an approaching trial, our instinct is to frantically try to shield those we care about from pain. It is a season of profound testing for us, a time when fear tries to take root in our hearts. Pan and I are finding that in the quiet of these hours, we are reminded that our capacity to protect is finite, and our need for a higher refuge is absolute.
A refuge is not a place we build ourselves through worry or perfect planning; it is a shelter that already exists, waiting for us to step inside. When we seek Him, we realise that He has been there all along. He does not ask us to carry the weight of the unknown, nor does He expect us to have all the answers. He simply invites us to rest in the reality that His presence is an unshakable shelter that remains standing no matter how fierce the wind becomes.
Trusting Him in times of trouble is an act of quiet, persistent surrender. It means acknowledging that while we may feel overwhelmed by the fragility of a situation, the God who knows our name is also the One who holds the future. As we step into His refuge, we are not abandoning our responsibility to care for those we love. Instead, we are handing them over to the only One capable of holding them perfectly. His character is our anchor, and His promise is our assurance that He has never abandoned those who seek Him. We move forward today by releasing our tight grip on the outcome and resting in the knowledge that His love is deeper than our fear.
Reflection
I admit that I often struggle to stand by when someone I love is facing a physical trial, as my instinct is to fix things rather than wait. I am learning that my most important role right now is to trust God with the outcome, even when my heart feels heavy with concern. I want to replace my restless anxiety with a steady, prayerful reliance on His promise to be our refuge as our daughter undergoes her procedure today.
Prayer
Lord, we come before You with heavy hearts, seeking Your peace in the midst of this uncertainty. We ask for Your steady hand to guide the medical team and for Your protection to surround our daughter during her surgery. Please comfort us, and especially keep our daughter in Your tender care. We trust in Your name and thank You for being our faithful refuge.
