The God of Justice

“So Moses brought their case before the Lord.” (Numbers 27:5 CSB)

Devotional

When we face a situation that feels fundamentally unfair, our first instinct is often to build a wall or sharpen our words. We feel the weight of being overlooked, much like the daughters of Zelophehad did when they realised the traditional laws of inheritance left them with nothing. They stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting, vulnerable and yet courageous, asking for what was right in a system that had not yet accounted for them.

Moses, despite his legendary wisdom and authority, did not rely on his own intuition or social custom to settle the matter. He chose the posture of a humble listener, taking the specific needs of these women directly to the heart of the Father. This reveals a beautiful truth about the God we serve: He is never bothered by our questions of justice or our pleas for favour. He is a God of the fine print, deeply concerned with the details of our lives that others might deem insignificant.

We often carry our burdens in isolation, assuming that the Creator of the universe is too busy managing galaxies to care about our personal disputes or broken dreams. However, the Father invites us to bring our “cases” into His presence. He does not offer a distant, bureaucratic response, but a personal and transformative one. When we stop trying to force our own solutions and instead lay our situation before Him, we find that His justice is always seasoned with deep, personal mercy.

Living in the light of this truth changes how we handle conflict and uncertainty. We no longer have to scream to be heard or manipulate circumstances to find security. Instead, we can walk with the quiet confidence of those who know their Advocate is the King. By following the example of Moses, we find that the safest place for our grievances and our hopes is in the hands of the One who loves us perfectly.

Reflection

I realize that I often try to solve my own problems before I ever think to speak with the Father. I want to develop a heart like Moses, one that is quick to listen and even quicker to bring every concern to God. I will choose to trust that He cares about the details of my life and will provide the justice and grace I need for today.

Prayer

Father, we thank You that You are always accessible and that no concern of ours is too small for Your attention. We ask for the humility to bring our difficult situations to You instead of trying to fix them in our own strength. Please guide our steps and give us the peace that comes from knowing You are our righteous Judge and our loving Provider.
