The Home-Seeking Heart

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10 CSB)

Devotional

We all know the hollow ache of being out of place. It is that unsettling feeling of standing in a crowded room and realising that, despite the noise, no one truly sees us. Most of our lives are spent trying to find our way back to a home we can barely remember, a place where we are fully known and yet completely safe. We often wander into distractions or achievements, hoping they will finally make us feel found, only to realise we have drifted further into the woods.

The beauty of our Father’s heart is that He does not wait for us to stumble upon the right path or find our own way out of the thicket. He is the active pursuer who enters our mess with a specific purpose. He does not stand on a distant hilltop calling out directions; He walks into the valley where we are hiding. His love is not a passive sentiment but a relentless search party of one, dedicated to bringing us back to the warmth of His presence.

When we feel invisible or defined by our past wanderings, we must remember that being “lost” is exactly what qualified us to be found. Jesus did not come to applaud the self-sufficient or to reward those who never lost their way. He came for the ones who are tired of their own independence. He looks past the labels the world has given us and sees a child who simply belongs at His table.

Resting in this truth changes how we face the morning. We no longer have to perform to gain His attention because we already have His entire heart. Our value is not found in how well we navigate life, but in the reality that the Creator of the universe stepped into time to find us. Today, we can stop running and simply allow ourselves to be gathered into His arms, knowing that in Him, we are finally home.

Reflection

I often feel like I have to work my way back to God’s favour when I have drifted away. I realize now that He has been looking for me long before I even knew I was off course. Today, I will let go of my effort to save myself and trust that Jesus has already found me.

Prayer

Father, we thank You for being a God who pursues us when we are at our weakest. Please help us to stop hiding in our shame and instead run toward Your welcoming embrace. We ask that You would settle our hearts in the peace of knowing we are fully found and forever loved by You.
