“The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 CSB).
Devotional
When you have been waiting for a breakthrough for a long time, the silence can feel like a heavy, suffocating blanket. You might look at the calendar and feel a rising sense of panic or frustration, wondering if God has forgotten his word to you or if you have somehow missed the boat. This exhaustion of waiting often breeds a deep loneliness, as though you are standing on a deserted platform while everyone else’s train has already departed. It is hard to keep hoping when your spirit is tired and the evidence of change seems nowhere to be found.
The apostle Peter addresses this exact feeling of divine hesitation by reframing the way we perceive time. What feels like a frustrating delay to us is actually a deliberate act of mercy from the Lord. He is not slow out of negligence or indifference; he is patient because of his profound love for people. Every moment of waiting is a space he has graciously carved out to allow more room for hearts to turn back to him. His timing is governed by a heart that beats for the restoration of every soul, including yours.
This patience is directed specifically toward you as well. God is not in a rush to push you through your current season before you are ready, nor is he tapping his foot in frustration at your progress. He understands the complexities of your journey and the weariness of your heart. He allows time for growth, for healing, and for the kind of deep repentance that leads to true freedom. When you feel like time is running out, remember that the One who created time is using it to work out a plan that is far more beautiful than a hurried solution.
You can find rest today by trusting that God is never late. He is perfectly on time, even when his schedule does not align with your expectations. Instead of seeing the wait as a sign of absence, try to see it as a sign of his immense kindness and his desire for wholeness. He is holding the door open, providing the grace you need to endure the middle of the story. Trust that the promise is secure and that the Father’s patient love is the very thing sustaining you while you wait for the dawn.
Reflection
I admit that I often interpret God’s timing as a lack of concern for my situation. I am learning to see his patience as a gift rather than a burden, recognizing that he is working for my good and the good of those around me. I will choose to be patient with myself today, knowing that my Father is not in a hurry with my life.
Prayer
Lord, please help me to trust your timing when I feel like life is passing me by. I thank you for your incredible patience and for the mercy you show me every single day. I rest in the assurance that you are not slow to keep your promises, but are perfectly faithful in your love for me.
